From Numbers to Innovation: Transforming Mathematics Education with the Tiny House PBL project
Lightning Session Stream 2: Sharing of action research
Time: 10:00 am – 10:25 am
Location: G16 & G07
For the first time, the mathematics department is integrating Project-Based Learning (PBL) into one of its courses through the Tiny House Design Project. This initiative blends mathematics, design, and entrepreneurial thinking, challenging students to apply geometry, measurement, optimization, and spatial reasoning to real-world sustainable housing solutions. By incorporating the gold standard PBL elements, this approach fosters interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and collaboration. Melanie will demonstrate how merging math with design and business enhances problem-solving skills and creativity. Join this session to explore how PBL can transform student engagement, bridge classroom learning with real-world applications, and cultivate future-ready skills. Let’s reimagine the way we teach mathematics!
